Metabolism of L-ascorbic acid in rat kidney.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous studies have shown that L-ascorbic acid is extensively oxidized to respiratory CO? in rats (1, 2) and guinea pigs (3, 4). However, little information is available on the intermediates involved in the metabolism of the vitamin. In the present study experiments carried out with carboxyland uniformly labeled L-ascorbic acid point to the presence in rat kidney of an active enzyme system for the decarboxylation of L-ascorbic acid.’

Stronger antioxidant enzyme immunoreactivity of Populus tomentiglandulosa extract than ascorbic acid in rat liver and kidney
Objective(s): Populus species have various pharmacological properties, including antioxidant activity. In this study, the effects of Populus tomentiglandulosa extract (PTE) on histopathology and antioxidant enzymes in the rat liver and kidney were examined. Materials and Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to three groups; (1) no...
متن کاملThe Effect of Ascorbic Acid and Garlic Administration on Lead-Induced Apoptosis in Rat Offspring\'s Eye Retina
Introduction: Lead toxicity induces retinal cell apoptosis. Vitamin C and garlic may decrease lead-induced apoptosis. This study was undertaken to investigate vitamin C and garlic protective effects on lead-induced apoptosis in eye retina. Methods: Pregnant Wistar rats (n = 72) were divided randomly into 9 groups: (L) treated rats with lead acetate in drinking water and (L+AA) with leaded water...
متن کاملAntioxidant Activity of Eclipta alba L. in Normal Rat Liver
The present study investigates the antioxidant potential of the ethyl acetate fraction of the aerial parts Eclipta alba L. Hassk (EAEA) which was widely used as hepatoprotective plant. EAEA was orally administered at doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg for 7 days in male Charles Foster rats. The extent of hepatoprotective potential of E . alba was studied by assessing the biochemical para...
متن کاملFormation of L-lyxonic and L-xylonic acids from L-ascorbic acid in rat kidney.
The enzymatic decarboxylation of n-ascorbic acid by rat kidney homogenates has been reported in an earlier study (1). It was shown that factors present in both the soluble and the particulate fractions were required for maximal activity. Evidence was presented suggesting that dehydro-L-ascorbic acid and 2,3-diketo-n-gulonic acid were intermediates in the decarboxylation of the vitamin. The reac...
متن کاملThe metabolism of ascorbic acid-1-C14 and oxalic acid-C14 in the rat.
It is known that oxalic acid is a product of ascorbic acid metabolism in the guinea pig (1) and rat (2), and is formed in man from unidentified precursors (3). Oxalates are also of interest because of their occasional toxicity and unexplained deposition. Ascorbic, dehydroascorbic, and 2,3diketogulonic acids are known to give rise to oxalic and threonic acids in approximately quantitative yields...
